September 24, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm EDT
Free – $5.00During Suicide Awareness Month, on September 24, 2022, 33 Forever, the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board and the Renaissance Theatre are pleased to host a very special and life-changing evening in Mansfield, Ohio with international speaker, author, flimmaker and suicide attempt survivor, Kevin Hines. Kevin shares his powerful story of his suicide attempt in 2000 when he jumped off San Francisco’s famous Golden Gate Bridge. Kevin’s miraculous survival was due to many factors, including a sea lion which kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived. Kevin now travels the world sharing his story of hope, healing, and recovery while teaching people of all ages the art of wellness and the ability to survive with true resilience. Join us for a special evening you will never forget!
The evening starts at 7 pm with Kevin telling his amazing story and providing hope and messages of wellness followed by a panel discussion/Q&A session. Reserved Seats are available for only $5.00 (reservations below) but General Admission is available at NO COST! Advance reservations are requested for planning purposes but General Admission is also available at the door. Free soft drinks and popcorn will be available to all in attendance! All are welcome! The Mental Health Board will also hold a revised format Annual Meeting earlier that evening in conjunction with the event.
This event will focus on the devastating effects of suicide and the tremendous positive ripple effects of advocacy, inspiration and hope that are helping millions heal and stay alive. Suicide is an epidemic that takes over 800,000 lives globally every year and that number continues to grow. In the United States alone, there are more than one million suicide attempts and over 40,000 deaths by suicide each year. It is the leading cause of death of individuals ages 10-34. In Ohio, 5 people die by suicide each day. The United States military suffers 22 veteran suicides every day.
Research shows that for each suicide death, over 115 people are directly and secondarily effected. The financial cost of suicide in the U.S. is estimated at over 40 billion dollars annually. Suicide is global public health crisis yet does not receive the attention it requires. As a result, millions continue to die and the resulting massive ripple effect continues, devastating the parents, children, families, friends, and communities left behind.
Kevin’s highly impactful personal appearance will bring critically needed awareness and understanding about suicide to our local community and region, and will touch on how to address, discuss and help reduce it and, ultimately, end the significant continuing stigma surrounding the topic.
33 Forever has numerous other local, regional, and statewide mental health and suicide prevention organizations are joining the event as Community Partners. In addition, at the event, Kevin Hines will conduct a sale and signing of his book, Cracked, Not Broken, with all proceeds going to 33 Forever.
